The Leverton Junior is a Foundation School, employed by a caring and proactive Governing Body. The Governing Body ensures that the school follows all legal regulations and curriculum requirements; it has high expectations and meets the government's standards and targets.

It opened in 1971 and is situated in a pleasant open environment with a large playground and field. It shares a site with The Leverton Infant and Nursery School with whom it works closely.

The school caters for boys and girls aged 7-11 years. It has approximately 230 pupils. The 4 year groups are divided into mixed ability classes. The maximum year group intake is 66 (33 in each class). 10 full time and 5 part time dedicated teachers are employed to cover the National Curriculum including booster groups and Modern Foreign Languages.

The school follows an Inclusive Policy and meets the needs and talents of every group and individual. It has 16 Learning Assistants who support all Literacy and Numeracy lessons. They also deliver 2 phonic programmes to individuals and groups of children.

The Leverton Junior takes an active part in the community by networking with other Waltham Abbey Schools, visiting and using the local facilities and serving the community through outside lets. It has good communication with the school nurse. It is supported by other outside agencies from Essex County Council such as the Educational Psychologist, TASCC (Behaviour support and other agencies) and curriculum consultants. The school also provides training and opportunities for trainee teachers and work experience for local schools. A sports partnership provides opportunities for all children to take part in a variety of sports.

The school is up to date with technology and is the proud owner of a new computer suite. Each class has its own active whiteboard which is used to enhance learning. It follows new government initiatives and is currently administering the new Literacy and Numeracy frameworks.

This is a good school, which has successfully focused on improving standards and pupils' progress since the last inspection. It benefits from strong leadership provided by the headteacher and deputy headteacher, well supported by a mix of experienced and more recently qualified staff.
