This is a reminder that our next PTA meeting is on Tuesday 8 May starting at 9:00am.  All parents are welcome.

Year 6 SATs

This year’s Year 6 SATs will take place on Monday 14 May, Tuesday 15 May, Wednesday 16 May and Thursday 17 May.

Year 6 Residential

This year’s Year 6 Residential will be on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 June.  £20 deposit needs to be in the school office by next Friday (27 April).  There are only 40 places available.

Dinner Money Debt

Before Easter the school underwent a financial audit.  The auditors did not feel the school was doing enough to recover Dinner Money that was owed by some parents.  The school is currently owed £1500.  Essex County Council and the Government do not protect us from this and the money is taken away from vital resources your child needs.  When setting the budget, I have had to reduce the amount of money we spend on the school library by half and also the amount of money we spend on resources by half.  All because the school is owed £1500.  Therefore, the Governing Body have agreed the following procedures for collecting money owed for school dinners.

  • Step one- letter from Mrs Drew informing you that money is owed

If not repaid

  • Step two- letter from Mrs Drew informing you that money is owed and stopping your child from having school dinners

If not repaid

  • Step three- a meeting with me to discuss a payment plan

If not repaid

  • Step four- an application will be made to the Small Claims Court to recover the debt

Headteacher’s Comments

I can’t believe I have now been headteacher for a year.  I would like to thank all the staff, governors, children and especially you the parents for your support over the past year.  I know I cannot please everyone all the time, but I would like to reassure you that I do have the children’s best interests at heart.  Have a great Easter holiday!

Achievements

I do try to put as many children in the newsletter as possible, but this may not always be the case.  Well done to Tia Pinnington, Cody Cassar and Michael Skinner for consistently getting all their spellings correct.  Well done to Millie Eastwood and Tommy Argent who received a Green Card this week.  Well done to Jessica Smith for her outstanding homework on Saint George.  On Friday I saw a lot of children from Ms Stafford’s class for receiving Green Cards during the week (they know who they are!).  Well done! Natalia Zolowicz received a Green Card for the high standard of her reading journal.  Well done everyone!

Launch Day

This is a reminder that the first two days back we are launching our whole school topic ‘A Diamond Olympics’.  On the Monday children need to come in dressed in Elegant Wear and on Tuesday they can pay £1 to wear sports clothing (all money to go towards Owen Andrew’s dad’s charity).  We have our launch days on the first days back so we can get started on the topic straight away.

Attendance

Well done to Mrs Campbell’s class for the best attendance for a tenth week. 23 children have 100% attendance.  Well done to Mert Ahmet, Tim Akpuda, Malcolm Alfred-Kamara, Elspeth Allen, Freya Blain, Ben Brooks, Raymond Bull, Rhys Dolan, William Dudley, Theo Harris, Shanice Lolomari, Kyri Neophytou, Kerys Page, Reggie Pegrum, Lucy Phillips, Michael Phipps, Melody Ramanah, Evie Rumens, Jake Ryan, Caelie Southam, Connor Southam, Reece Vallance and Thomas Wilkinson.

Food Club

Food Club starts for year 4 children on Monday 23 April from 3:15-4:30pm.  Letters have already gone out so please return the slip as soon as possible.

Return to school

We return to school on Monday 16 April at 8:45am.

Uniform

School uniform has become sloppy this past week.  May I remind parents that children should wear plain black shoes or trainers.  With the weather warming up, if your child wants to wear shorts, this is to remind you they should be tailored shorts.

Mobile Phones

This is to remind parents that children should not bring mobile phones into school.

New Parent Classes

  • Do you want to help your child with maths but find you have forgotten how to do some of the basics?
  • Do you find you can get the answers, but can’t explain how or why?
  • Does some of the maths your child learns seem different to the way you did it at school?

If so, come to our 7 week Family Numeracy course starting on 8th May from 1.15pm -3pm where we will go over all these things in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.  The children will join us for the last half hour of each class to do some fun maths activities and games.  Please speak to Ms Cromwell to find out more details.

Headteacher’s Comments

Thank you to all the parents who made an appointment and turned up to this week’s Pupil Progress Meetings.  In our last OFSTED inspection the inspectors asked us to ‘Better engage all parents and carers by ensuring more frequent information to parents about pupils’ progress, targets and ways in which they can support their child’s learnin.’  I hope you found the Interim Progress Report useful. On it you will find your child’s current level and what level they are expected to achieve by the end of this year.  This is based upon the level your child achieved at the end of year 2.

Achievements

Well done to Jessica Phillips and Holly Philpot who received a Green Card for always working hard in class.  Ami Byatt, Alesha Wade, Leah Marshall, Scarlett Warren, Owen Brennan and Reece Vallance received Green cards for working hard in a team, making up teaching songs with words, pulse and melody. Well done to Charlie Best for working hard in Maths Booster. Well done to Elspeth Allen and Shanice Lolomari for receiving Green Cards for working really hard in Writing Booster.  Well done to Danny Gill who received a Green Card for his excellent Art Work.

Another Positive Governor Visit

Mrs Square (Parent Governor) carried out a health and safety visit on Monday.  She then sent an email to me saying ‘While walking round the school I noticed all the children seemed to be engaged in their learning and everyone looked happy. The children were all well behaved and the staff were so friendly. I am so pleased my children go to the school.’

Year 5 Swimming

Next week (22 March) will be the last week for the current year five to swim.  On Thursday 29 March the year 5 children who participated in the Aqua Splash will be going swimming to try out for the Swimming Gala.  Please make sure your child has the correct swimming costume and £1.

Attendance

Well done to Mrs Stafford’s Class who won Percy after having Best Attendance last week.

Grand Easter Raffle

You should receive a book of raffle tickets.  This is for our Grand Easter Raffle.  The first prize is a BMX bike.  All the prizes are donated so every £1 ticket sold will be £1 profit for the school PTA.  They are raising money to improve the facilities in the playground.  Please encourage your friends and family to buy a ticket to help.  The draw will take place during the Family Bingo Evening.

Family Bingo Evening

The PTA is organising a Family Easter Bingo evening on Friday 30 March starting at 7:30pm.  Please return the slip with money as soon as possible.  Cost is £5 per adult and £3 per children to include 1 Bingo ticket per game and a sausage and chip supper.  We will also be drawing the Grand Easter Raffle during the evening.
